Many discoveries in the area of gene regulation and neurodevelopment have been made which now enable the characterization of the molecular basis for development and function of various neurons that control most of our body actions. However, how the diverse array of neuronal cell types is specified and organized by specific epigenetic factors as well as transcription factors still remains poorly defined. The objective of my research has been focused to study the molecular mechanism of gene regulation by transcription factors and epigenetic coregulators and to characterize their physiological functions in embryonic development, neurogenesis, metabolic homeostasis and ultimately try to develop novel therapeutic applications to treat human diseases.
